How to make a tier list with Tierforge
Tierforge is a free tier list maker that runs entirely in your browser. Here is how to build a ranking you are happy with and turn it into a card worth sharing.
What is Tierforge?
Tierforge is a simple, good-looking tier list maker. A tier list is a way of ranking a set of things into labelled bands — the classic S, A, B, C and D, where S is the very best and D is the bottom of the pile. People make them for fun: ranking pizza toppings, ice-cream flavours, comfort foods, weekend plans, small luxuries, group chat habits, chores they dread, or their own custom list of anything at all.
Everything happens on your device. There is no account, no signup and nothing to install, and the list you build never leaves your browser. It works just as well on a phone as on a laptop, and it is completely free.
How to make a tier list
- Pick a starting point. Choose one of the twenty curated packs on the home screen — they are grouped into Food & Drink, Everyday Life, Outside & Weather and Out & About, and Surprise me opens a random one. Or choose Custom and type your own items (text or emoji, one at a time). All the items begin in the Unranked tray at the bottom.
- Place your items. Drag a chip from the tray up into the S, A, B, C or D lane and let go. On a phone the same press-and-drag gesture works with your finger. Prefer tapping? Tap a chip to select it and a small bar appears letting you send it straight to any tier.
- Rearrange freely. Move chips between lanes as many times as you like, or send one back to the tray. Nothing is locked in.
- Export your card. When it looks right, press Export to render a portrait PNG tier card — the title, every tier and all your chips — ready to download or share.
Tips for a better tier list
- Start with the extremes. Place your obvious S-tier favourite and your clear D-tier least favourite first; the middle gets easier once the ends are set.
- Keep S small. If half your items are S-tier, the ranking says nothing. Reserve the top band for the genuine standouts.
- Use the tray as a “maybe” pile. Anything you are unsure about can wait in Unranked until you have placed the easy ones.
- Custom items stay short. A leading emoji plus a couple of words reads best on the chip and on the exported card; very long labels are trimmed.
- Compare, do not agonise. Ask “is this better or worse than that?” rather than trying to find a perfect absolute rank.
- Reset when you want a clean slate. The Reset button sends every chip back to the tray so you can start the same theme over.
Frequently asked questions
Is it free? Yes, entirely free, with no account and no signup.
Do I need to install anything? No. Tierforge runs in any modern browser on phone, tablet or desktop.
Can I upload images? No — Tierforge is deliberately text and emoji only, which keeps it fast, private and safe to share.
Where is my tier list saved? It lives only in your browser while you are working on it. The card you export is a plain PNG image you own; nothing is uploaded to us.
Can I rank my own things? Yes. Choose Custom and type any list you like, then rank and export it exactly like the built-in packs.
